Here is a great way to stay focused and productive for the entire year! I have done this for several years, and I have found it to be extremely helpful in reaching my annual goals.
If you are like me, you start out the new year with great intentions and goals. You put a lot of thought into what you want to accomplish or change in your life. But with each passing day, it becomes a vague memory and by mid-year, you can’t even remember what your goals were. By December, you are coming up with your goals again, only to figure out that they are the same ones you had last year! Does this ever happen to you?
So, here is a helpful tool to guide you the entire year. I got this idea from Chris Brogan, a fantastic author, business leader, coach, and entrepreneur. I highly encourage you to follow him and read his stuff! He is one of the few people I follow religiously. Sign up for his Sunday email!!
Think about three words that motivate you, create passion, and are meaningful to your 2018 goals. Only pick three! These three words will guide you on how to spend your time and what to say “yes” to and what to say “no” to throughout the year.
My three words for 2018
Focus. I will stay focused on my main goals for the year. With all the technology and social media at our fingertips, it is now easier than ever to get completely sidetracked. I have a great planning outline that one of my mentors gave me. I will use it to stay focused and organized! Let me know if you are interested in using the template too, and I will email it to you.
Discipline. I will not get distracted or give up when it comes to accomplishing my goals for the year. I will say “yes” to the right things and “no” to the things that will get me off track.
Consistent. I will have more structure in my day and do small, scheduled tasks to help me reach my larger goals.
Keep your three words in front of you so you don’t forget them. Make them the wallpaper on your computer, post them on your mirror and do whatever you need to do to get them in your line of view.
And as you go through your day, let these three words be your guide. Ask yourself:
Do my daily actions align with these words?
Make sure they do!
Happy New Year! Let’s make it a great 2018!
